Small Business Week is a national celebration of Canadian entrepreneurs and their contribution to Canada’s economy. The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) has been organizing Small Business Week for 37 years.[1] It takes place every year during the third full week of October. Events held during the week bring together entrepreneurs—and prospective entrepreneurs—at conferences, workshops, luncheons and trade fairs across Canada.[2] The goal is to provide them with opportunities to learn, network, share ideas and socialize with their peers.

This year the Town of Bassano is hosting a Small Business Social Thursday, October 19th at 7:00 at the Community Hall.  Along with light refreshments, there will be presentations highlighting the past, present and future of our local businesses.  Marilyn MacArthur, Community Development Officer notes that there will be three streams to the event.  “The past of Bassano is exciting, and that history has been captured in a report “The Evolution of Bassano Business – 1883 to the Present” – documenting the changes in Bassano’s Business Community to illustrate the changing nature of industry as a reflection of the evolution of industry in the Rural Southern Alberta.   Present Bassano will highlight the outcome of this summer’s Business Walk, and a special guest speaker will be addressing attendees on Making Your Community Great.  Chris Field, will bring his “Aim High Presentation – 5 Ways to Leap the Hurdles That Stand in the Way Of Exceptional People and Places.”  Chris is in high demand as the Senior Strategist, 13 Ways Inc.  You won’t want to miss this!

Tickets will be on sale starting September 25th, $10 per person, so bring your co-workers, employees and family to enjoy this celebration.
