The Town of Bassano was incorporated to Town status in 1911. The deep roots of this
town can be seen in several original buildings still standing in Bassano.
1390 people call Bassano home and major employers are agriculture, oil and gas, manufacturing
as well as the retail sector.

MUNICIPAL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT - DISTRACTED DRIVING
The City of Brooks Municipal Enforcement Unit will help to make Brooks and area driving habits safer.
As a result of traffic studies completed in 2006 in Alberta, a comprehensive strategy was developed to reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries in Alberta. The Alberta Traffic Safety Plan Calendar is one of these strategies that will help direct the enforcement activities of the City of Brooks Municipal Enforcement Unit in 2010.
Distracted driving is identified as the focus for enforcement for the month February 2010. Research indicates that driver distraction contributes to 20 - 30 percent of all traffic collisions. While Brooks Municipal Enforcement unit does not investigate traffic collisions, the aim of our enforcement is to support our enforcement partner, Brooks RCMP Detachment, who does investigate traffic collisions.

- Contracted with City of Brooks and County of Newell to provide Bylaw Enforcement in Bassano.
- BMX track constructed and operational in August.
- The Imperial Hunter Hotel completed major upgrades.
- Sold five residential lots.
- New Doctor and family from South Africa completed our two doctor compliment at Bassano Health Centre - November.
- Bassano Health Centre celebrated 50th Anniversary - August.
- Several paving projects completed in the area - November
- Bassano Airport strip
- Access to Crawling Valley - County of Newell
- Duck Lake Road north of Town - Country of Newell
- Present RCMP compliment consists of one Cpl and two Cst. For a very large area.
- Partnering with County of Newell to synergize services whenever possible.
- Industry and oilfield economically hit hard.
- Premier Ed Stelmach and Marie visit Town of Bassano, touring Bassano Health Centre, speaking at the Women's Wellness Conference and lunching at Bassano Recreation Complex - May.
- Approximately 130 people attended the Women's Wellness Conference - May.
- Eastern Irrigation District began a $1M upgrade of the Crawling Valley campground and marina - January.

Coming to the County of Newell & Town of Bassano! July 7-10, 2010
The Southern Alberta Summer Games 2010 are being hosted by the County of Newell and the City of Brooks with competition in 25 events taking place all around the County. Bassano will play host to the bowling competition and the Thursday evening events. For more details go to the SASG website link on the hand column of this page.
