I would like to extend a warm welcome to all those that are
visiting or choosing to make Bassano their new home. Bassano is
a vibrant Town with a deep and exciting history. As Mayor of
Bassano, I encourage you to visit the Bassano Memorial Library
and check out our Bassano History Book.
Bassano has a great deal to be proud of in
that there is so much to offer in the way of services,
recreation, businesses and job opportunities.
The many services include a health care
centre, RCMP detachment, three churches, (Catholic, Free
Evangelical and Presbyterian) grocery and hardware stores as
well as a pharmacy. We have many other businesses that
compliment our oil and agricultural based economy which
includes a 24 hour gas station and local industry shipping
products to the four corners of the planet. We also have an
excellent senior’s lodge as well as programs for kids to enjoy.
The Bassano FCSS offers preventative socialopportunities to
children, youth, families and community members.
Bassano boasts a myriad of recreational
opportunities that include a modern outdoor pool, complete with
a 100’ waterslide, hot tub and diving board. It is a triple
sectioned pool, with a large pool deck as well as a vast green
area that encourages families to bring their lawn chairs and
picnic baskets. Nestled on the west end of Town is a beautiful
nine hole golf course, curling rink and bowling alley with a
With the newly renovated Crawling Valley
Campground only a short drive from Town, camping and fishing
are an excellent way to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. If
you cannot get enough fishing there, then a visit to the famous
Bassano Dam may satisfy your pallet, which is located southwest
of Town on the Bow River which is the gateway to the largest
irrigation district in Canada.
The Centennial Arena has been home of the
minor hockey Outlaws for many years as well as ringette and
figure skating. The Bassano School offers K to Gr.12 students
many exciting programs. The magnate program for the high School
is the “Health Recreation and Human Services” program where
there is hands on practical work with a patient simulator which
is the only program of its kind offered at the high school
level in Canada. On the school grounds there are two active
ball diamonds, soccer fields as well as playgrounds, basketball
and tennis courts.
Bassano, through its volunteer efforts, is
renowned for its hospitality. As it has in the past, the
community is striving to further grow and prosper and I, on
behalf of the Town Council would like to extend a warm welcome
to the Town of Bassano,” The Best in the West by a Damsite”,
and we look forward to meeting you and your family.
Tom Rose, Mayor
