We seek a dedicated and skilled individual to join our Public Works team as the Public Works, Facilities, and Operations Assistant to contribute to the operations of an active, growing community of 1,216.
Position Overview
The public works department is comprised of a small, dedicated team of three full-time and permanent positions that handle all aspect of municipal public works operations meaning the scope of responsibilities is highly varied. The position we are seeking to fill is Public Works, Facilities, and Operations Assistant. This versatile role combines technical expertise with operational support to maintain and enhance public infrastructure and services. This position involves a range of responsibilities, including facility and grounds maintenance/labour, equipment operation, construction support, and basic administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of mechanical skills, problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, a desire to learn, and a strong commitment to community service.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Support routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance on public buildings, pumps, roads, and other community assets.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain various machinery, including backhoes and skid steers, ensuring efficient and effective use.
- Construction and Support: Assist in construction projects and support daily operations with hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Grounds Maintenance: Undertake landscaping and grounds upkeep to ensure a clean and attractive environment.
- Administrative Functions: Maintain records, manage inventory, perform tailgate and safety meeting functions to support overall department operations.
- Data Collection: Gather data for maintenance logs and reports, contributing to planning and improvement efforts.
- Community Engagement: Interact with residents to provide information and address public works concerns where applicable.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members and departments to coordinate and implement municipal projects.
Qualifications
- Proficiency with hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license and any relevant certifications.
