Press Release – CAO Announcement

Town of Bassano Announces Appointment of New Chief Administrative Officer

The Mayor and Council of the Town of Bassano are pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremy Wickson as the community’s next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective January 5, 2026. Mr. Wickson has been appointed under a three-year term, supporting long-term administrative stability as the Town advances major strategic initiatives.

This leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment as the Town prepares to launch the Core Infrastructure Renewal Program. After careful consideration, Council and administration determined that proceeding with a transition at the outset of this initiative best supports sustained progress and the interests of all stakeholders.

To ensure a coordinated and responsible approach, representatives from both the Town of Bassano and the County of Newell met in a closed session to discuss the path forward. CAOs Amanda Davis and Matt Fenske collaborated to assess organizational needs and identify a candidate who could confidently lead the municipality through this next chapter.

Mr. Wickson, a Bassano native, brings extensive experience in municipal government, including senior roles as Director of Public Works and Director of Engineering across southern Alberta. His strong technical background, leadership capabilities, and deep understanding of municipal operations position him well for his debut as CAO in his hometown. Council is pleased to welcome him back as exceptional local talent returning to serve the community.

Outgoing CAO Amanda Davis will conclude her role to pursue academic commitments. This transition has been developed collaboratively with Council to support operational continuity and to ensure the Town remains well-positioned during the rollout of major projects.

As the Town undergoes this administrative transition, Mayor and Council ask for the public’s patience and support. We remain committed to maintaining high-quality service delivery, transparent communication, and responsible governance.

Council extends its gratitude to Ms. Davis for her dedicated leadership over the past seven years and invites the community to join us in welcoming Mr. Wickson as he steps into the role of CAO.
