There are so many recreation and leisure amenities to enjoy in our community with most of the facilities and programs organized, operated, and managed by volunteers. Facilities, programs, and capital upgrades are often subsidized through local taxation from the Town and the County of Newell.
Recreation and leisure look different to everyone. Find what you like and come join the fun. Aside from what is provided on our website, you may find other recreation and leisure offerings in Bassano hosted privately or through other clubs and organizations. The Joint Use Facility (JUF) is a multi-purpose facility that includes our outdoor pool, arena, bike track, and tee-off of the Dam Disc Golf Course. It is located at 249 (arena) and 253 (outdoor pool) 6th Avenue.
The recreation complex is another multi-purpose facility that is the home of the golf course, bowling alley, and curling rink, located at 109 – 1st Street.
Bassano Centennial Arena has everything you need for your event. The facility features 6 change rooms, a recent LED lighting upgrade, a concession with a sitting area, and a vending machine on the upper level. In addition, spectators have many options with our enclosed upper viewing area and wheelchair-accessible heated space at ice level, as well as our large bleacher area.
The Arena Management Board operates the arena between October and March each year. The facility supports a variety of user groups like Minor Hockey, and the Bassano Skating Club. Hockey is available for all ages including public skate and shinny. The Bassano Skating Club offers skill building through Skate Canada’s CanSkate, StarSkate, and PowerSkate programs.
From ice rentals to ice dancing, the arena offers a variety of activities for you and your family to enjoy. Our facility is open annually from October to March.

Bassano has a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, open between June and August annually. Swimming lessons are offered as well as aquafit and lane swim. Public swim is a wonderful opportunity to bring the family and a picnic to enjoy the lovely greenspace or patio or bring a book and relax in the sunshine. The pool has a zero-grade entry, diving boarding, slide, hot tub, and vending machines. Our pool is the place to be in the summer!

This is an 18-hole disc golf course (reverse 9) that tees off beside the bike track. Disc golf is fun for all ages free activity available year-round. Rent discs at the Bassano Memorial Library and enjoy a game. To rent discs, you must have an active library membership.
“Diamond in the rough”, “best well-kept secret”, “beautifully maintained course”, and “affordable and convenient” are some of the common themes people use to describe the Sage & Thistle Golf Course. This facility is managed by a volunteer board. The organization hires staff to deliver a fabulous 9-hole grass green golf experience. Situated on several acres of lush greens and mature trees it is a real oasis on the prairies.
Visit our friendly staff at the clubhouse for a delicious burger, to grill up a steak, or to enjoy a cold drink. Cart rental and storage are available.
Join a golf league, participate in a golf tournament, enjoy a solo game, or bring your friends and family. Did we mention, that you can also rent the facility and host your own event? Everyone is welcome.

They cheer, yell, and sweep – that is how they have fun, and you can do it right here in Bassano. Tired of sweeping, perhaps you would prefer to enjoy a game while having a meal and viewing from above. That is also an option, there is no judgment, just come out and have fun.
This facility is managed by a volunteer board. Volunteers make all the arrangements to maintain an active curling club in Bassano. The typical curling season operates from October to March annually.

We have a three-lane 5-pin bowling alley for everyone to enjoy. Join a league or rent by the bowling alley by the hour. It is a great place to host a birthday party or for just a fun night out. Shoes of all sizes are available for rental at no extra charge.

This is a beautiful, well-kept facility for your next function. Located at 610 – 2nd Avenue, the Community Hall has a capacity of 299 people, it has a fully functional commercial kitchen, open Wi-Fi, a projector, wireless microphones, Bluetooth sound system, stage, and dance floor. Round tables, and rectangle tables with chairs are available for use when you rent the facility at no extra cost.
If you would like to expand your function, there is a large fenced and treed greenspace adjacent to the facility. You can open the double doors and access this location. The area is conveniently located beside the Kinsmen Park playground and adjacent to our municipal campground. The campground has 15 sites (with/without power) with ample onsite parking at each facility.

How early can I get in to set up?
You are permitted to set up for your event after 5:00 p.m. the night before pending the facility is not rented for another function.
What is the building’s capacity?
The building capacity is 299 persons.
Looking for a place to stay? Bassano’s Homecoming campground is located at 605-2 Avenue, right on the main street with easy access to all our amenities. The facility is serviced with washrooms and a shower house. There is a playground, sport court, and community hall across the street is you are looking for more.
This campground is a first come, first served facility and fires are not permitted.
When renting stalls, an additional tent is permitted for members within the same group on the site at no extra cost provided all items (e.g. camp units, vehicles) remain within the boundary of the rented site. If items are not within the defined boundary an additional site must be rented at the listed rate.
Select your preferred campsite as shown on the site map. Pay by cash or cheque (payable to the Town of Bassano) by using the envelopes by the shower house. Ensure you fill out all the payment and site details along with your term of stay.

If you have a large RV/camper and wish to stay in a power site only one power hook up can be used. If you need another power hook up, you will be charged for two power sites.

The entire Campground may be reserved if all fees are paid in-full 60-days in advance of a function. Long-term renters will be authorized to remain at the Campground regardless of a reservation if they arrived first.
Cancellation of the entire Campground rental can be made at any time, no refund will be given.
There is a picnic table at every site.
Quiet time is 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
Pets are permitted at the campsite but must remain on a leash at all times.
Ensure you clean-up after yourselves and your pets.
Campground users may access the open Wi-Fi at the Bassano Community Hall at no additional cost.
Business activities such as Farmer’s Markets, Tax Service Offerings, and the short-term selling of wares over a 24-hour period is permitted at the Campground. The storage of outdoor business activities is not permitted. The user/seller must have an active business license with the Town (where applicable) and pay the daily rental rate for each camp stall used for the purpose of business activities.
Located at 514 – 6th Avenue this multi-use greenspace includes an off-leash dog park and a community garden. The area may be used year-round while keeping in mind the town does not provide snow clearing in the greenspace area. When using the dog park obey all posted signage, close the gate behind you, and always pick up after your pet.
The community garden is accessible in the greenspace, separated from the dog park by fencing. Garden boxes are available to rent on an annual basis between April 15 – October 15. The cost is $15/box per annum and is subject to change. To register for a garden box or for additional information, contact the Town’s FCSS department.
There is a small fitness centre available for users located at 518-2 Avenue Unit B. Through membership, the gym is accessible 24/7/365. Basic equipment is available including cardio machines (treadmill, tread climber, spin bike, rower, and elliptical), as well as a squat rack with free weights. There is one universal bathroom (excluding shower) for changing. The space is limited however, it affords you the necessary equipment for improved fitness or recovery.
We have a range of equipment to help you achieve your fitness goals: Treadmill, spin bike, elliptical, tread climber, rowing machine, recumbent bike, home gym, squat rack, and free weights.
We realize that Alberta winters can be treacherous, so we also offer indoor walking at the Community Hall from October to March.
The hall is accessible on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for those who have purchased an Indoor Walking membership unless the facility is booked for a function.
Combine your gym membership during winter months to access the Community Hall for unstructured indoor walking.

Visit the Town Office (502-2 Avenue) on Monday-Wednesday and Friday between 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. to complete payment. Pay by debit, credit, cash, or cheque. Cheques are to be made payable to the Town of Bassano.
You will be contacted via email or by text (as indicated on your registration form) with the facility door code for access unless you are doing a drop-in. If you are accessing a drop-in pass, you may only use the gym during regular business hours of the Town.

You MUST sign in before every use. Those who do not hold a current membership are NOT permitted to use the gym.
Avoid bringing any unnecessary personal items into the facility. Clean/dry footwear only. Street shoes are NOT permitted on equipment.
No food or pets are permitted within the facility.
Wipe down equipment using sanitizing wipes before and after use.
Exit the facility immediately after use. Do not congregate in or around the facility.
Lost and found items will be disposed of or donated if left unclaimed.
Contact the Town Office if you notice any damaged equipment of need assistance.
The Backyard Park is centralized at 101 – 8th Avenue Close between most recreation amenities. Opening in late 2024, the park includes a community wide fire area with two horseshoe pits.
This is a great place to relax after a round of golf, iron, or disc, for gatherings with friends and family, or to simply enjoy the sun.
The firepit is available on a first-come, first-served basis – but sharing is caring.
The firepit may only be used during park hours 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Use caution, no fires on windy days.
The firepit is closed when fire bans are in effect.
Bring your own wood – only burn clean firewood and kindling.
Careful – the firepit may get hot – use caution when enjoying the great outdoors.
Ensure the fire is fully extinguished before leaving. Soak it, stir it, soak it gain.
In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1.
Be respectful of others. No foul language or behavior.
Remember to clean up after yourself.Â
As a public space, amenities are on a first-come, first-served basis – but remember sharing is caring. The park was built in the spirit of community and goodwill to be enjoyed by all.
Home to Bassano’s annual Pro Rodeo, agricultural/rodeo grounds is a great outdoor space to hold events large and small. Located north off of 1st Avenue West, these grounds include a rodeo arena, outbuildings, a kitchen, and grandstands.
